If you compare LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter today with the timelines in the beginning, you see the visual evolution in full effect. From completely text-based platforms to completely visually oriented platforms. Partly due to the rise and popularity of other social channels such as Instagram, Pinterest and Periscope, visual content has become important for all social media. Timelines today are full of memes, crazy videos and personal pages have become more personal over the years with their own backgrounds, layouts and more visuals.

Three reasons are responsible for the growing demand and supply of visuals online:

Easy production: everyone can produce (beautiful) visuals. Fast and good with a smartphone, apps and wifi cameras.
Instant distribution: via the same smartphones, anyone can share content online directly with the rest of the world.

Massive impact: the reach of this content online is enormous together
